About the authors
Sherrill Grace
Sherrill Grace is a professor of English and theatre at the University of British Columbia. She is former President, Academy I, of the Royal Society of Canada. She has lectured widely in North America, as well as in Germany, Italy, England, Belgium, France, China and Japan.
A member of several professional associations, including the Association of Canadian Studies, the Canadian Association of American Studies, the Association of Canadian College and University Teachers of English, the Canadian Comparative Literature Association, the Modern Languages Association and the International Association of Professors of English, Grace was awarded the prestigious Killam Teaching Prize in 2008, and in 2009 she received the Ann Saddlemyer Award for her biography Making Theatre: A Life of Sharon Pollock.
Michelle La Flamme is a performer and educator who is of African-Canadian, Métis, and Creek ancestry. She is very involved with the Aboriginal arts community and has worked for (IMAG) Indigenous Media Arts Group and with Margo Kane at Full Circle First Nations Performance for a number of years. She has been the coordinator of the IPAA (Indigenous Performers Arts Alliance) and was recently project coordinator for the Indigenous Language Revitalization program at UBC. She has been a guest lecturer in Germany and has also taught in the Netherlands and Spain. Recently, she has been teaching in the English and theatre departments and in First Nation Studies at UBC. In 2006 she graduated from UBC and was awarded the Paul Stanwood Prize for the best doctoral thesis in the Department of English. She is revising her thesis, â??Living, Writing and Staging Racial Hybridityâ?? for publication with Wilfred Laurier University Press (2008).

Ric Knowles is of anglo-Scottish heritage, and is Professor of Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph, editor of Canadian Theatre Review, and past editor of Modern Drama (1999â??2005). He is author of The Theatre of Form and the Production of Meaning, Shakespeare and Canada, and Reading the Material Theatre, co-author (with the Cultural Memory Group) of Remembering Women Murdered by Men, editor of Theatre in Atlantic Canada, Judith Thompson, and The Masks of Judith Thompson, and co-editor (with Joanne Tompkins and W.B.Worthen) of Modern Drama: Defining the Field. He is general editor of the book series Critical Perspectives on Canadian Theatre in English and New Essays on Canadian Theatre from Playwrights Canada Press.
